413 Golf Weekend Recap: Help grow the community!
Plus, a look at the exquisite Greathorse
Happy Tuesday, fam!
I’ll be short and sweet today. I’m asking for your help.
Since launching just a few short weeks ago, I’ve been blown away by the response to the 413 Golf Newsletter. So many of you have joined, read, and clicked. From the bottom of my heart: THANK YOU.
Now, I’m asking two things from you, my good-looking, faithful subscriber:
Share this with your golf buddies and ask them to subscribe. If you play in a weekly league, share it with your partner or the whole group. If you go on an annual golf trip, throw it in the group chat. If you’re a club professional or course staff, share it in your next email to members. Forward along this email or send them our subscribe page: 413golf.beehiiv.com
Let me know about a story, tournament, person, or course you’d like to see featured in the newsletter! Got some ideas? Simply reply to this email and I’ll be sure to get it covered.
Again, thank you for being a part of this awesome community!
OK, enough about me. In this weekend recap, we’ve got:
Another look at the tournaments and outings you should get on your calendar ASAP
A dive into the ever-impressive Greathorse
News and notes from this past weekend!
Hit ‘em long. Hit ‘em straight.

With the golf season still waiting to kick into full gear, here’s a look at the tournament schedules currently available along with a few key events open to registration. As we get deeper into the golf season, we’ll be highlighting the upcoming weekend’s events and outings across the region.
Bay State Golf, a friend of 413 Golf, is partnering with FN3P on the Half Swing Golf Series. There are two events scheduled thus far: May 30 at Butter Brook GC in Westford and July 18 at Crosswinds in Plymouth Sign up for one of their 2-player team events here.
Country Club of Greenfield has released its 2024 schedule. First open event is May 11 and the annual Amateur Open Championship will be Aug. 24-25.
Equal parts party and golf tournament, the Killington Classic at Killington Golf Course is a 27-hole four-man scramble, golf festival, concert, and brewfest. Signing up before April 1 gets additional value so be sure to grab three of your best golf buddies and register today!
The schedule of events is available for the U.S. Am Tour’s New England series with The Ranch hosting on July 27. See the full schedule here.

Featured 413 Golf Course
Western Massachusetts is home to so many highly-rated private clubs, popular public courses, and countless hidden gems. Each week, we’ll feature one of the many courses across the region. This week, get to know:
Greathorse
On the site of the former Hampden Country Club, the Antonacci family, which acquired the property in 2012, built an absolute masterpiece.
From the epic clubhouse with outrageously good food and drinks to the sprawling recreation, events, and practice areas to the perfectly-maintained championship course, this place legitimately has it all.
The $50 million facelift was completed by Brian Silva, who’s known for his work on many of New England’s best courses. It started with bunkering (which is quite noticeable on nearly every shot at Greathorse) and continued with refreshed irrigation, tee boxes, fairways, and cart paths. A ton of work was done on holes 1, 9, 10, and 15 and the final result is exquisite.
I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to play it a handful of times [humble brag] and have found it an extreme challenge — made even more difficult by the slick and tricky green complexes.
Needless to say, if you ever have the opportunity to experience Greathorse: seize it.
News & Notes
Longmeadow’s Ryan Downes shot a 2-under 70 in the final round of the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in Aiken, S.C. nearby Augusta. In one of the most prestigious events in all of junior golf, Ryan struggled out of the gate, shooting 76 in the first two rounds but bounced back nicely in a weather-impacted event. The who’s who of both boys and girls junior golf was in attendance. Check out the highlights here.
The Amherst College women’s golf teams took home hardware at the Jekyll Island (Georgia) Collegiate. The Mammoths finished 3rd in the 18-team event and were powered by individual play of Annabelle Chen (T12) and Kaia Wu (T17). The men’s team finished 20th in the 30-team field.
